Spring Equinox Letter from Cressida Pryor
March 16, 2026

Cressida Pryor

Dear FOI Friends,

As I write this to you, getting close to the Spring Equinox I find I have the sense of stepping out of 'ordinary' time and into 'sacred' time…

Jung contrasted these two concepts of time, firstly that of 'chronos' time…that of the everyday linear, sequential moment by moment time…as measured by stopwatches and our mobiles…and secondly he wrote of Kairos, the "right time" or opportune moment for psychological growth and transformation…it's also called 'sacred' or 'Divine time'. It is not about how much time passes but whether time is used correctly. These two concepts of time are experienced differently…perhaps as you read this have a moment to reflect if you have a sense of these two different aspects of time in your life…

Jung's suggested that 'Kairos' events can be connected through synchronicity, so through meaning rather than just the more usual cause-and-effect dynamic of Chronos time, particularly when an archetype is active.

One example of this I would like to share happened recently…last week I was talking with a friend about finding music for a 'time' focused event I was creating. He suggested I use 'Who knows where the time goes?' written and sung by Sandy Denny recorded decades ago…and has been recorded by many since…I was surprised I had overlooked and forgotten this beautiful almost archetypal song so was grateful for the reminder…

Half an hour later I nipped into town for a few bits and pieces…going into a shop to look at the stationery for a craft session later in the year…I heard, on the shop's music system…Sandy Denny singing this, her song…I haven't heard it for years…I certainly felt a 'time slippage'…a reminder of the passage of time but also the phrase from Quantum Physicists that: 'time is what stops everything happening at once'…there is an essential order of the seasons, that we mark and celebrate now, but also a sense that we step through these 'thin' times into the Eternal Now of Kairos.

Divine Mother, at this time, we call upon your energy to steady the hands of those in power to see the sacred in every moment, in every life… We hold before you our friends and partners across the Middle East, and in our own communities and lands…Surround them with your protection. Open paths for wisdom, restraint, and justice where none seem possible. Give courage and hope to peacemakers and clarity to those who speak truth.

Let your wisdom take root in scorched and fearful places.

Keep our hearts from despair and teach us to stand with those who suffer, to pray without ceasing and to hope, especially now, in your redeeming love and peace.

May we enjoy the lengthening days and new life so evident at this time, and bring balance, peace and hope into our lives and all those we love.

So may it be, amen.

With blessings,
Cressida, FOI Steward
