FOI Imbolc Letter 2023

Dear FOI Friends,

For me this year, Imbolc has arrived as a surprise, something I almost wasn’t expecting...like the rear brake lights of a preceding vehicle when driving through fog…you need to slam on your own brakes too to avoid a collision, your heart pumping…but there is someone else out there too…and this brings comfort.

And now the fog starts to clear…the sun is beginning to melt the low cloud and we notice the first green growth of bulbs slicing through the earth…and there is hope and relief.

We have survived the darkest times; lambs are beginning to greet their new world with bleats of belonging and curiosity…

How can we be part of the miracle of the bulb’s inherent knowing to begin that upward growth to the light? The wonder of the snow drops delicate structure and beauty…how will we do the seeming impossible in a world so challenged and faltering?

Now, you might be thinking, “How am I going to match the miracle of plant growth, or the new born lamb’s entry into the world?”

May we offer our gifts to the Goddess and to our community, fellowship and neighbours; that’s how we express these miracles in our own lives. Your gift may be prayer, art, healing, business or teaching, but the prophetic call of the Divine will hone these gifts so that your very life is a prophetic witness to the world.^[1] So may it be, amen.
